AN OPTOMETRIST at a Colchester sanatorium is set to act for his nation in the Commonwealth Fencing Championships.
Belfast-born Richard Allen, who lives in Wivenhoe, is streamer to Australia this month to act for Northern Ireland in both group and particular events.
The 31-year-old emissary head of optometry at Essex County Hospital has paid the 2,500 cost of the outing to Melbourne himself, as the usually aid he gets is giveaway membership of the LA Fitness Health Club, in Clarendon Way, Colchester.
Richard, whose spouse Kajal is a pharmacist at Colchester General Hospital, proposed work at the sanatorium after completing his grade in Cardiff 9 years ago. He narrowly longed for out on a place in the group 4 years ago, when the championships were hold in Belfast, where he grew up.
Richard took up fencing at 13, but gave up at 16.
Five years later, he assimilated the Colchester and District Fencing Club, that meets at the Gilberd School, High Woods.
His practice moreover involves twice-weekly sessions in Camden, periodic sessions at the gym, cycling and swimming.
